Probably the best chiptune album I’ve ever heard. It has left me utterly speechless…

    Fantastic work, Rich!

  3. Benji Says:

I agree with Norrin_Radd. Disasterpeace has outdone itself. Great album.

Utterly brilliant from start to finish. I have to agree with Norrin that after my first listen, I was left completely bereft of words. By turns nostalgic, energizing, whimsical, reflective, and epic you have created what is quite honestly one of the best chiptune albums ever produced. “Counter of the Cumulus” is worth the price of admission alone, as far as I’m concerned. “Ensis”, “The New Formation”, and “Submerficul” are equally awe-inspiring in their melodic sparkle and polished harmonic bliss.

It was well worth the long wait to hear this masterpiece. As “Prologue” wrapped up and “Jump Error” began during my first listen of the album, I uttered just three words: “Welcome back, Rich”.

    Welcome back, Disasterpeace.

This feedback is pretty interesting. Honestly, I don’t quite see eye-to-eye with this extremely high level of praise… but I myself am not a longtime Disasterpeace fan like (evidently) the rest of you, so I don’t hold quite as high an opinion. For example, if a new Pixelh8 album suddenly hit, I would probably be far more excited and interested in it than the rest of the chiptune community would.

That’s not to say I think “Obsidian” is a bad album, of course; but I wouldn’t go quite so far as to declare it the best chiptune album ever made.

All things considered it’s a solid effort–I purchased it day one. Congratulations on the record, Mr. Peace–and good luck with future projects. :)

I remember Ensis from the Heartcode comp. I remember looking up more Disasterpeace songs at the time and being disappointed because Ensis was my favorite from the comp, besides Get Pumped. but now, this album is awesome. really, it’s great. I didn’t even recognize Ensis by name, but as soon as I heard it I got even more stoked on this. I would buy this if I wasn’t currently in a free-music-only phase (sure the album’s not that much, but I have an addiction, if I buy one album I won’t be able to stop, and I can’t afford that right now). but I’ll buy it eventually! like I keep telling myself about Xoc’s non-free albums…

but anyway, this is really good! I hope to hear more like this one, even though it took so long to finish…
